Find out how to hire our gorgeous vintage crockery

"It was like stepping back into a past golden age, of flower prints, lace, beautiful china with lovely crooning music to match! The best thing was your cakes - the courgette cake light as a feather with proper lemon curd and gorgeous creamy topping, not too sweet. Thank you for your warm welcome and wonderful treat, it exceeded my expectations."

"Some people search for ever to find their calling. it is our great fortune that Gaynor has found hers. To eat Gaynors cake is to realise that there could just be someplace other than  we what we know. Recently there was an opportunity for Gaynor to bring this cake world to the people of Fulford when the fruit and veg shop closed. Sadly for the most obscure reasons the lease was given to a charity shop. A great opportunity lost for the community. Good luck in the future. I for one will be putting in regular orders for cake perfection." Brian McCusker, Editor The York Flyer.

"I did make it to Gaynor's Glorious vintage tea party, well worth the effort!! My dear friend Natasha and I enjoyed Carrot and Guinness cake, both divine, Gaynor is certainly a cake queen! The ambience of music, bunting, original vintage crockery: all details have been thought out. When my friend was asked what she thought? She replied "MAGICAL" I think that says it all." Samantha Bach

"The first time I went to Gaynor’s Glorious Tea Parties was because it was recommended by a friend. I was new to the area and curious. As soon as I entered The Fulford Social Hall I felt like being in a completely different place. Colourful bunting across the ceiling, beautiful table cloths on each table, matching vintage crockery, vases of flowers, nice background music. As I found out later, Gaynor even brought her own dressers to match the theme and to display some of the cakes as well as the crockery. After I sat down I was approached by a very friendly young man (actually one of Gaynor’s sons) who took my order, a cup of tea and a courgette cake. Needless to say that the cake was super delicious and the tea came as a refill in a gorgeous teapot. On that occasion Gaynor approached me and we started to talk about this wonderful event which clearly brings the community together. She suggested I should come along on the first Saturday of each month and offer taster sessions for Reflexology and Indian head massage. That was the start of a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Glorious Tea Parties was at Fulford Social Hall and I came along for my taster sessions but also for the great and relaxed atmosphere, the fabulous homemade cakes, the beautiful set-up, to meet new people and chat to the neighbourhood. I also realised how much effort and hard work Gaynor had to put into these events, baking lots of delicious cakes, getting everything ready on time, decorating the hall, set up the tables and chairs and look relaxed. She did it extremely well!!!"

Glorious Tea Parties - our story

Glorious Tea Parties was born in August 2010. Our first ever event was at the Galtres Festival: we were delighted to be part of the inspiring Arts Barge Project which had been asked to support the entertainment of the festival. When we settled into their marquee for the weekend, we had no idea what to expect apart from hoping to showcase some of our cakes and that people would enjoy a refreshing cup of tea in amongst the mayhem of all things festival. We were overwhelmed by the response, people were quoted as saying what a fabulous place to come and meet friends and enjoy the ambience, and a chance to relax on sofas. Bunting was flowing and there was always some live music provided by the Art Barge project to welcome the customers.

The passion of opening a café and providing a welcoming space was becoming a reality.

We wanted to continue to showcase the idea of bringing a Vintage Tea Party to an event and so offered people the opportunity to come along to the local social hall and and see how a hall can be transformed, taste the gorgeous cakes and take tea with friends – what would they think?

Overwhelming we were presented with a host of comments, all ooohing and aahing about the delights of the cakes.

Since that time we have worked closely with the Arts Barge and continued to showcase the hand crafted cakes; being part of the Arts Barge Venue in the centre of York stands as a highlight. Four weeks of varying entertainment, art exhibitions and theatre productions. Each day more and more visitors came to enquire about the barge and were then curious to try out the cakes that they had been hearing so much about. Cyclists shouting out as they passed by the river bank, ‘what’s the speciality cake today?’.

The business continues to grow and we are now able to provide a whole host of both sweet and savoury dishes, from delectable courgette and pistachio cake to creating savoury dishes including mezzes.
